Revered as one of Frances' most impactful sculptors, Paul Belmondo was a true artist who persevered through some of the most tumultuous years of French history. He began sculpting at the age of thirteen and survived both World Wars, facing injury which left him unable to continue as a soldier. Despite this, he continued to study Fine Art in Paris. Eventually winning the Grand Prix of Rome, Algeria, and Paris in 1926, 1932, and 1936. Belmondo fathered the famous French film star Jean-Paul Belmondo and two other children. He was commissioned for many sculptures still in place throughout Frances' historical buildings, medallions, and minted coins. Including the original cast of this pendant, which was his first coin struck at the Paris Mint. A large collection of his works are on display at the Musée Paul Belmondo in Ballincourt, France.
